Stalletjies

There are not enough words to give an adequate definition for art; as the saying goes: “Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder.” What one person considers art, another person may consider junk. Sometimes the Gariep Arts Festival seems to ignore “classic” art forms, but we only aim to present an art market which includes a variety of genres. Whether you are painting, sculpturing, do ceramics, knitting, woodwork, cross stitch, or whatever you think would qualify as arts or crafts, we would like to hear from you.
On what type of items do we focus at our art market at the Gariep Arts Festival? What is the criteria by which we judge the quality of art products? How do we distinguish between "good" and "not good"? The origin of the product is very important and plays a major role in the selection process. Products must show innovation, be self-designed and preferably be hand-made by the customer. The festival would like to promote self-employment, encourage entrepreneurship and support South African products and self manufactured products. The Gariep Arts Festival does not have a flea market area and thus cannot allow mass-produced goods and flea market items. It is customary and valid for us to inquire about the origin of a product. We reserve the right to restrict certain types of products to prevent an oversupply.
This year we aim to present an ART MARKET which includes arts and crafts products that will appeal to each and everyone’s unique taste not forgetting that it should be a feast for the eyes and your wallet. Be creative, roll up your sleeves and display your arts and crafts ware at the biggest festival in the central interior of South Africa. -
